Compiling the book was an important task entrusted to the Institute of Party History and Literature by the CPC Central Committee. General Secretary Xi Jinping attached great attention to the book and gave important instructions for its compilation, setting the book’s direction and providing its editors clear guidance and basic principles. With a total of 860,000 Chinese characters and 455 photos, the book is divided into four volumes: “The New-Democratic Revolution,” “Socialist Revolution and Development,” “Reform, Opening Up, and Socialist Modernization,” and “A New Era of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics.” With Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era as their guide, the book’s editors applied the principles from Xi’s important statements on the CPC’s history and his major speeches and instructions on Party history and literature work. With a strong understanding of the CPC’s history, they remained true to historical materialism, freed their minds, and sought truth from facts.
