本教材作為人民大學(xué)非英語專業(yè)碩士研究生“英語中國”改革項目的重要階段性成果，以法學(xué)、政治學(xué)專業(yè)的碩士研究生為主要教學(xué)對象，以聽說訓(xùn)練為基礎(chǔ)，培養(yǎng)學(xué)生用英語講述與自己專業(yè)有關(guān)的當(dāng)代中國現(xiàn)象，并對這些現(xiàn)象進行較專業(yè)的分析和評論。本教材在全新的編輯視角和選材的基礎(chǔ)上，立足現(xiàn)在中國大學(xué)（特別是中國人民大學(xué)）的碩士研究生現(xiàn)狀，以學(xué)生自己的專業(yè)為切入點和突破口，既有現(xiàn)實的考量，也有培養(yǎng)學(xué)生相關(guān)思維方式的權(quán)衡。

陳影，博士，副教授，碩士生導(dǎo)師。從事研究生英語教學(xué)14年。曾任教于北京語言大學(xué)外國語學(xué)部，現(xiàn)任職于中國人民大學(xué)外國語學(xué)院。近五年教授的課程主要有非英語專業(yè)本科英語精讀、本科英語專業(yè)語音、碩士英語專業(yè)專業(yè)課、博士學(xué)術(shù)英語、碩士英語等。學(xué)生數(shù)量每個學(xué)期大致100人左右。 主持北京語言大學(xué)教改項目5項（結(jié)項）、主持中國人民大學(xué)研究生英語教改項目1項（法政類英語中國改革負責(zé)人，在研）。教育部學(xué)位論文評審專家；獲得北京市青年英才項目。
