《外眼看中國.1》讀物的編寫遵循課標要求與精神，共有8個單元，每個單元由4篇語篇組成。這些語篇來源于中國日報社外籍專家在中國生活的所見所聞、對中國文化和中國社會發展的體會和思索，以及對人生、對世界的觀察和體悟，展示了豐富多彩、生動立體的中國形象。本冊讀物包含“關注身心健康”“與他人友好相處”“”和“飲食文化”等主題，引導學生開拓視野、思考中國文化內涵。總體來看，本書很好地體現了新課標對閱讀素養培養的要求，主題突出，圖文并茂，寓教于樂，對提升學生的英語閱讀素養和英語學科核心素養有很大助益。版式設計新穎、活潑，注重呈現中國元素。每單元還設有讀后活動，由信息獲取、邏輯思辨、文化對比和輸出、寫作等類型的練習題組成，全面培養學生的語言能力、思維品質與文化意識，為學生今后進行國際交流和文化對話、向世界講好中國故事奠定堅實的基礎。
