《IELTS考試技能訓練教程》（被廣大讀者稱作“‘黑眼睛’雅思教程”）是為參加雅思考試的考生進行短期強化訓練而設計的。第5版《教程》分為5冊：聽力（上）、聽力（下）、口語、閱讀、寫作。閱讀分冊分為兩大部分：*部分為IELTS閱讀技能訓練，按題型分為7個單元，共61項不同主題內容的訓練。每單元訓練之前提供簡明的題型介紹、題型分析、閱讀技能要求和答題要領。第二部分為7套模擬試題，幫你進行學前評估、學后檢測、考前演練。

IELTS 的閱讀考試根據出國的目的分為兩類。凡是計劃出國留學，攻讀學士、碩士或博士學位的考生應參加Academic 類（簡稱A 類）的考試。申請移民或參加短期交流式培訓的考生要考General Training 類（簡稱G 類）。
本書收集的文章，題材主要是針對A 類的考試。但近年來G 類考試的閱讀文章有兩個趨勢：1. 難度和長度均有增加；2. 廣告和通知類的短小型文章的比例減小，長篇文章的比例加大（2000 年9 月的一次考試首次出現了三個部分全都是長篇文章，沒有廣告、說明類的短文的試題）。G 類試題中第三部分的長篇文章的長度、題型均與A 類試題非常接近，因此，本書中的許多文章亦適用于準備參加G類考試的考生。
A 類的閱讀考試有三篇文章，至少有一篇文章為文科題材（與社會、經濟等文科專業有關），另外兩篇涉及理、工、農、醫，一般與科技有關。每篇文章的長度為800 ～ 1000 詞，每篇文章有12 ～ 15 道題，總共有40 道題，個別試卷或多或少一兩道題。所有的文章均出自英、美的刊物或書籍。

IELTS考試技能訓練教程:閱讀 作者簡介
陳衛東，*北京語言大學出國留學人員培訓部主任。1982畢業于北京語言大學，留校任教至今。1986—1987年在英國愛丁堡大學MorayHouse教育學院學習，獲碩士學位。1991—1992年在英國Manchester大學教育系進修。自1987年留學回國后，20多年來一直負責北京語言大學的雅思培訓，在雅思考試的閱讀題型研究、試題及教材編寫方面做了大量開拓性工作，并擔任雅思閱讀和寫作培訓的主講教師，除《IELTS考試技能訓練教程·閱讀》外，還著有《IELTS應試指南》《IELTS雅思直快──寫作》等。
王冰欣，*北京語言大學出國留學人員培訓部副主任，副教授。畢業于北京外國語大學，獲英美文學碩士學位。1997年9月至1998年9月在愛丁堡大學MorayHouse教育學院進修，2002年7月至9月和2005年10月分別在聯合國教科文組織擔任筆譯。著有多部雅思應試類教材及全國英語等級考試第五級（PETS 5）應試教材。
