《中國經典兒童文學走向世界-婷婷的樹（英）》： On the early morning of Sunday, Tingting's mother allows Tingting to ring Grandpa Jin's doorbell for she has agreed that her daughter can go to pick mulberry leaves with him and persuade him to wear the red trousers that day. There is a story about the red trousers. Tingting's mother came back from a business trip abroad and bought a pair of trousers for Grandpa Jin a year ago. The trousers are of quality fabrics and fit Grandpa Jin well, but the color is surprisingly red. Tingting took them to Grandpa Jin cheerfully. Seeing they were red, he asked, "Who are they for?" "For you ！ " He laughed, "I'm too old to wear red trousers. I will become an eye-catcher immediately if I walk in our street wearing them. It's too weird！ He refused to accept them. Tingting could do nothing more. At that moment, Tingting's mother came in and tried to persuade, "Foreign men around your age love red trousers, and look great on them." He waved his hand, "Thank you. I truly appreciate your landness. Tingting's mother said, "I'll leave them here for a few days. You can go out and see if there are people wearing red trousers in the street; then you can decide whether to wear them or not." So, he has kept the red trousers for almost a year. Later, his teacher told him that there were various shades of red, such as alizarm crimson, vermilion, scarlet, venetian red, tangerine, pink, carmine, bordeaux red, rust and rose madder. Unfortunately, he did not continue his painting studies, so he has forgot almost everything he learned. As the red trousers evoked memories of his youth, he thought they looked nice. However, he still didn't see anyone his age wearing red trousers. He was hell-bent on finding an old man in red trousers！ Suddenly, he saw a tall gray-haired man in red trousers across the street. The man was striding down the street with his back straight. Grandpa Jin walked behind him for a little while, carefully looking at his red trousers. He guessed that they might be vermilion. He also noticed that some other pedestrians were also looking at the red trousers, in a mixture of surprise, curiosity and envy. He began to admire the courage of that old man, who walked in the crowd without looking sideways, composed and confident. "He must be saying silently, 'feel free to look at me'," thought Grandpa Jin. He came home and immediately put on the red trousers. Then he looked in the mirror and saw a radiant, optimistic and confident man. His gray hair became shiny, and his smile warm.
